EPA has approved the SDDA request for a specific emergency exemption, 12-SD-03, to allow HopGuard® miticide to be used for Varonna destructor on Honey Bees. The Section 18 became effective on 4/5/2012. The Section 18 label is on the SDDA/Agronomy Services website. 4/16/2012
EPA has approved the SDDA request for a specific emergency exemption to allow Avipel® seed treatment to be used to protect newly planted corn seed and sunflower seed against consumption by ring-necked pheasants.
The Section 18 emergency exemption for corn, 12-SD-02, became effective February 28, 2012.
The Section 18 emergency exemption for sunflower, 12-SD-01, became effective February 17, 2012.

EPA has informed us of a final decision on maneb. On May 26, 2010 a Proposed Rule was published in the Federal Register that proposed the immediate revocation of existing maneb tolerances (40 CFR 180.110). Based on comments the EPA received, the maneb tolerances will remain in place until December 31, 2012.
A final rule published on July 12, 2011 makes this decision final. Existing stocks of maneb products intended for use on ag commodities should be used by December 31, 2012.

Ag Retailers and Farmers Must Comply with Refillable Containers Regulations. On August 16, 2011, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) will require all portable and refillable pesticide containers to meet new requirements. Full press release here. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has approved the South Dakota Department of Agriculture (SDDA) request for a specific emergency exemption to allow Avipel® seed treatment to be used to protect newly planted corn seed and sunflower seed against consumption by ring-necked pheasants.
The Section 18 emergency exemption for corn became effective March 8, 2011. This is the fourth year that South Dakota has been granted a Section 18 emergency exemption for Avipel® as a corn seed treatment.
The Section 18 emergency exemption for sunflower became effective March 11, 2011. This is the second year that South Dakota has been granted a Section 18 emergency exemption for Avipel® as a sunflower seed treatment.
